Judge: Probation for Octomom Doc

A judge has recommended that Dr. Michael Kamrava, the doctor who helped Nadya "Octomom" Suleman to get pregnant with eight babies, be put on five years' probation.

The judge thinks the doctor should get the five years of probation by the California state medical board instead of having his license revoked, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Times, Kamrava transferred 12 embryos into Suleman's uterus on July 19, 2008, resulting in the pregnancy from which Suleman's octuplets were born on January 26, 2009. Kamrava also helped Suleman to get pregnant with the first six of her 14 children.

The Times reports that Judge Daniel Juarez found Kamrava to have committed gross and repeated negligence in two 2008 situations in which he treated transferred embryos into Suleman, but the judge did not find Kamrava to be negligent or incompetent when he treated Suleman from 2002 to 2007. The judge found Kamrava negligent but not incompetent in caring for two other female patients.

The judge recommended to the state medical board that Kamrava be allowed to continue to practice medicine under supervision, or while taking a training course, and also recommended an ethics course.

The Times reports that the medical board will likely consider the judge's recommendations at a meeting on Thursday, January 27.
