Ricky Gervais Defends Golden Globes Jokes

Ricky Gervais has been getting some heat for his jokes at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, with rumors swirling that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and celebrities alike were not pleased with his quips. The funnyman says that is far from the truth.

"Obviously the rumor that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do," the Golden Globes host wrote on his blog. "The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn't move around the order but I could move around however I wanted."

He added, "All the same conspiracy theories as last year too... 'So and so was offended'... 'hasn't been invited back yet'... exactly the same as last time. 'Paul McCartney was furious'...no he wasn't. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after."

Philip Berk, the President of the HFPA (the organization behind the Golden Globes) told The Hollywood Reporter of Ricky's hosting, "He definitely crossed the line. ... When you hire Ricky Gervais, you expect the unexpected."

However, Ricky does understand why the rumors are spreading, saying the gossip is more interesting than the actual truth which he says is "some people won some awards and then went to a party." He concluded his blog by getting in on the rumor mill, writing jokingly, "So here's what really happened. Bruce Willis and Sly Stallone started a fight with me but Alec Baldwin and Mark Walberg stepped in and helped me out. That's what happened."
